- Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) - Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit
Description
Cleveland Clinic is currently seeking a CNS for a position our main campus cardiovascular ICU in Cleveland, Ohio. Critical Care experience is required for this position.
This position is only open to Clinical Nurse Specialists. NPs and PAs will not be considered at this time. A clinical nurse specialist (CNS) is one type of APRN. CNS’s provide expertise and support to nurses caring for patients at the bedside, help drive practice changes throughout the organization and ensure the use of best practices and evidence-based care to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.
Cleveland Clinic CNS Standard Core Work
Clinical Expert – Collaborate on care of high-risk patients and patient care concerns which promote high quality, safe, cost effective care as demonstrated by:
- Providing direct patient care as applicable.
- Rounding with patients/nurses and interdisciplinary teams regularly
- Responding promptly to clinical questions
- Proactively monitoring nursing practices and analyzing data for trends
- Writes notes and bills for patient services
- Prescribes medications, therapies and devices as appropriate
- Educator- responsible for dissemination of knowledge through instructing, leading and developing educational programs as demonstrated by
- Developing/teaching specialty classes for healthcare professionals locally and across the organization
- Providing “just in time” teaching at the point of care
- Identifying learning needs and develops and implements programs for patient education within the area of specialization.
Consultant – working with members of the healthcare team to share clinical expertise demonstrated by:
- Identifying current trends in health care and their implication for nursing practice.
- Supporting nursing shared governance teams
- Leading and participating in continuous quality improvement projects
- Representing nursing practice on hospital or enterprise committees
Researcher and evidence based practice – Promotes translation of evidence based practice as demonstrated by:
- Disseminating knowledge from guidelines and research studies
- Primary responsibility for writing/revising policies, procedures, and nursing protocols
- Standardizing nursing practice across location
- Conducting nursing research
Professional development - Support professional development of clinical nurses as demonstrated by:
- Providing career coaching and guidance
- Assist with poster/oral abstract development
Requirements
Education:
- MSN required. Graduate of an accredited APRN program.
Languages:
- Oral and written communication in English
Certifications:
- Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of Ohio.
- Must be licensed or eligible to be licensed as an RN in the state of Ohio.
- National certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist by nationally accredited organization recognized by state Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) may be required based upon work setting.
- Must have arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with requirements set forth by the State Board of Nursing in applicable states.
- Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.
Work Experience:
- Two years clinical critical care nursing experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Typical physical demands include the ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to perform physical examinations.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to a normal range.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
