The Clinical Manager of the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is an amazing opportunity for a dynamic RN leader interested in joining a transformational nursing leadership team at a 3-time Magnet recognized community hospital. This position requires a strategic thinker, strong communicator and problem solver who will provide clinical oversight of this PCU and of dialysis.  

In this role you will manage the Progressive Care Unit at the Main Campus of Lowell General Hospital.  The PCU is a 36-bed unit for telemetry, step down, or intermediate level of care. In this role you will:

  • Work closely with the Director of Clinical Operations for Inpatient Services and will take responsibility for unit systems functions, RN staff performance, and patient care outcomes. 
  • Lead through change both planned and unplanned, build consensus when appropriate, motivate and encourage others. You are responsible to maintain an inclusive workplace; maximizes contributions of all employees, and develop strengths in all team members.
  • Be responsible for hiring, counseling and coaching staff, providing disciplinary actions, positively interacting with medical staff and support services during times of stress and constant change.
  • Will oversee dialysis treatments. 
     

Unit Description: 

Patients on this unit require peritoneal and hemodialysis, cardiac catheterizations, pacemakers, internal cardiac defibrillator placement, post-operative monitoring, and interventional radiology.  These patients receive continuous cardiac monitoring, and some may also receive continuous oxygen saturation monitoring.  Patient can be on high flow oxygen, Bi-pap ventilation, and continuous cardiac Intravenous medications.  The nurse patient ratio is less than on the med/surg floors, allowing patients to be more closely monitored.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • BSN required, MSN preferred.  
  • BLS and ACLS required and certification in critical care preferred.
  • Prior proven experience and expertise in critical care patient population (minimum 5 years clinical work) and/or prior proven experience and expertise in management, either in first line or in shift supervisory work.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills for high level communication within the hospital and at interdisciplinary and administrative meetings.
  • Experience developing written proposals, preparing budgets, writing evaluations and developing standards and Performance Improvement (PI) reports.
